Installation Tips

Important: Replacing a steering rack is a complex procedure that requires professional mechanical expertise. Disconnect the battery before starting work. Safely raise the vehicle and support it on jack stands. Remove the front wheels. Disconnect the steering column coupling from the pinion shaft. Mark the alignment position before disconnecting. Disconnect the power steering fluid supply and return lines and drain the fluid. Remove the old rack assembly – note the mounting bolt positions and torque specifications. Install the new link assembly, ensuring all mounting bolts are tightened to factory torque specifications. Reconnect all fluid lines and refill with fresh Toyota/Lexus-approved power steering fluid. After installation, bleed the steering system by turning the wheel lock-to-lock several times with the engine running to remove air bubbles. Check for fluid leaks around all hose connections and the rack boots. Critical Step: After any steering rack replacement, a professional wheel alignment (toe and thrust angle adjustment) is MANDATORY to prevent rapid tire wear and ensure safe, straight-line handling.
